Logos 4

February 22, 2012

Recently I received Logos 4, a Bible study software for the computer. I received this software as payment for some articles I wrote a while back. Now the challenge is to figure out how this software works. I’m thrilled about many of the books in my Logos library; here are some that I had been wanting and now own:

  • Synonyms of the New Testament (Trench)
  • A Short Syntax of NT Greek (Nunn)
  • A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament (Metzger)
  • TDNT (Kittel)
  • The Works of Josephus
  • A Concise Greek-English Dictionary of the NT (Barclay Newman)
  • The Genre, Composition and Genre of the Epistle of James (Cheung)
  • GKC: Gesenius’ Hebrew Grammar
  • Greek-English Lexicon of the NT Based on Semantic Domains (Louw-Nida)
  • A Greek-English Lexicon of the Septuagint (Lust)
  • An Intermediate Greek-English Lexicon (Liddell)

What resources do you find most helpful to your study of the Scriptures, which source do you use the most, and which should be found in every Bible student’s library? Let me know and I’ll be sure to add them to my new electronic library.

  1. I absolutely love Logos 4. I use it everyday. For me, as a pastor, my commentaries are of most value. There are, on the Logos web page, tutorials and if you search the forums you’ll find loads of helpful comments. In the wiki section I believe there are links to videos people have made. Some of the best are by a gentleman by the name of Mark Barnes. If you want to invest some money I can recommend Morris Proctor’s seminars on DVD or you can try http://www.learnlogos.com.

The program is very resource heavy but worth it. What package did they gift you?

Thanks so much for the feedback Mark! I’ve been checking out the video tutorials. I received the biblical languages version.

      • That was my first purchase. I loved it. I added the IVP Reference pack (The Dictionary of…) and I have since upgraded to Gold. Can I also recommend purchasing Bdag and Halot as well as the Anchor Bible Dictionary set. Invaluable!

Thanks for the purchasing advice Mark! I think I’ll go ahead and add those to my library (except, I own the hard copy of BDAG, so I’ll just keep using that).
