Olympic Park Munich

September 29, 2012

Now that my German tests are finished, we have time to leisurely explore the city. Yesterday we went to Olympic park, where the 1972 summer Olympics were held. This park is in pristine condition, despite the fact that the games were hosted here more than 40 years ago. Unlike other cities whose olympic facilities rust into decay and disuse after a few short years, Munich’s is still a bustling hubub of activity–a reflection of the industrious German culture.

Making our way to the olympic grounds, the olympic tower is seen overhead.

Four only 4 Euros one can swim in the olympic pool and use the olympic diving boards. Warning! speedos are the norm! There are also exercise rooms and showers for use.

Feed the birds!

Great photos! It looks immaculate! It’s hard to believe that I was in high school when the Olympics were held there in 1972 :-)

Yup that’s me. I remember my keen interest in the track and field events – one mile and two mile especially, since I ran those in track meets myself.

Plus of course the unfortunate and very sad attack on and death of the Israeli athletes by the terrorists put a real pall on the Olympics that year.
