My daughter knows what it means when poppy gets ready in the morning: Poppy is getting ready to go to work, that is, to to grab his backpack, fill it with books, and then spend the day at his desk in the library. Lately she has come up with an interesting solution:

hiking 004

Sneak into Poppy’s backpack and spend the day with him in the library. Sounds like fun right? Poppy is sure to get lots of work done if my little buddy comes along :-)

Enjoy these pictures from mother’s day weekend. You’ll see some pictures of Melody with pig-tails–this was the first time she ever wore them.

Like father like son

January 21, 2012

I can totally relate with THIS video, which shows a dad sneezing and then his twin babies imitating his sneeze. My little Melody is quite the imitator, and unfortunately she doesn’t just imitate the good. Her mimicking has revealed several areas in which I need to work on my manners. For example, one of the biggest laughs I had lately was when we had just finished eating lunch. We were sitting around the table talking, Melody was in her high-chair. Suddenly I burped, and Melody proceeded to “burp” too. She was definitely imitating me. All of us, even Melody, were rolling in laughter. I’m not going to tell you about the time we were on a walk and I spit in the grass . . .

This principle emphasized a basic parenting lesson: children will imitate what they see in us, and not just things like our burps at the dinner table. Am I modelling patience and Christ-likeness?

Home from Georgia

July 3, 2011

We returned last night from a week in Georgia, where my wife’s folks live.

As usual, we spent a day in the mountains and hiking to several waterfalls

Melody was quite a traveler. She took several long naps on my back as we hiked.

I think Sophie lives for these excursions. Can you spot her in this picture?

Melody awoke from her nap to discover the meaning of “waterfall.” She had a ball.

Let me offer you a piece of advice: make sure you always wear your bathing suit in the mountains; you never know when you’ll find a refreshing mountain pool in which to cool off.

You know that saying, “A baby changes everything”? Well, here is just one example: now we go to waterfalls and take pictures of the baby.

We also spent an afternoon at a nearby lake

A little tuckered out

Thanks for the wonderful visit, Mom and Dad, we love you guys. Now, HJ and I are home and eagerly preparing for my sister to spend the week with us, and then for my cousin and his wife to spend the following week. Don’t you love summer!

Be sure to check out my wife’s blog (click HERE). She has posted a video showing how close our 6 month old daughter is to crawling. Any predictions on what day she will first crawl?

Melody turns 6 months old today. My how time flies. Want to see how much she has grown?

In the past 6 months, Melody has learned to roll over, sit up, eat big kid food, and to splash in the pool. I wonder what fun things she’ll learn in the next 6 months.

My little distraction

May 20, 2011

Well, I obviously have not found time to blog in the past couple of days. Why not? The answer is simple, and this picture says it all. On Sunday I’ll be watching her practically the whole day while HJ has a student recital. Boy are we going to have fun!

Packing for Germany

March 31, 2011

Well, it’s time to pack my bags for Germany. Trying to decide what to bring and what to leave behind is not an easy decision. I’ve narrowed it down to these four books:

(My Bible, a book on James, and two books I’m reviewing)

I may also try to sneak little Melody along with me:

Can you blame me? How in the world am I going to be away from my girls for a whole week? I thought I would also share this picture with you: Joann, a friend in Louisburg, watched Melody on Tuesday for a few hours. When I got home from work this is what I saw:
